This is a birthday cake I made for my mum & brother in law, who share a birthday to within one day – maybe I should have used that excuse to make two cakes? ;) This was a bit of an experiment in texture, a stippled ombre chocolate coating on top of the ganache. I also got to make some freeform autumn leaves for the first time, and my first rose using the bag and spoons method. I can’t post this on fb yet because it’s supposed to be a surprise.
It was another of those cakes where I really didn’t know if it was going to work until the last minute, where it all just pulled together and (thankfully) looked great. It was a good job too, because it was almost 2am and the cake had to be done for today! Again I was left in wonder at how our intuition (creative spirit, divine guidance, whatever you want to call it) naturally knows what to do without the need for us to consciously understand or know it, and all we need to do is override the nagging doubts of “how will this work??” and just flow with it, and things will work out in the end. If only it was as easily done as it is to say :P
