Sweet 16 Sweet 16

When i was asked to make this cake, I was told sweet 16’s traditional colours are black and hot pink.
Is this right??? – i never heard of this before.
Anyway, the cake turned out tops, but i had a lot of trouble jamming the floral wires into a single straw before inserting it into the cake (food regulation standard). Do any of you lovely cakers have any tips on this? Do i split a bunch of flowers and insert into a cake separately, or is there another method im not aware of. Im definitely missing something here, because this was much harder than it should have been!

The cake consists of double barrel mud base and extended red velvet top tier. I got a little lazy and wrap covered both tiers, instead of the usual one piece method. It eliminated the stress associated with covering such tall cakes + no need to work on the sharp edges ;-)

Rather than a straw, have you tried flower pics? And when I tape my flowers together, I try to ‘graduate’ the thickness of the stem by trimming with pliers as I go down the stem…. oh that sounds poop, really hard to explain!!!!
I start taping together with one stem then once I’ve added another stem, I trim the wire of the first one and so on….
This prob hasn’t helped at all – sorry!
Beautiful cake by the way xx

great cake so beautiful, you should make a forum discussion about this, a lot of people will respond to it. I don’t know the answer either. Good luck with finding out though.
