I made this cake for my father in law who has an obsession with this yacht.
I decided a while ago that I would like to have a go at making him a ‘replica’ in cake form. I did loads of research, gathered lots of pictures and diagrams and began planning. When it came to actually making his cake, I nearly gave up before I started. He has so many pictures and books that I felt that my offering was going to look a bit silly next to all that….however not being a person who likes to give up too easily, I gritted my teeth and started.
Once I got into it, I really enjoyed myself. I tried to keep everything in proportion and in the right place compared to the original yacht. I was worried about attaching the sails but had seen how another cake maker had done it and contacted her for advice. Sandra from Kingfisher cakes kindly gave me some tips.
Anyhow, this is his cake.
He loved it. He noticed the proportion, he noticed the placing of the buildings and the accuracy of the colours. He loved the ruffles that looked like the waves.
Proud….yes I am!
