This was a very small fruit cake I was asked to make for the village Summer Flower Festival which took place a couple of weeks ago. Nearly everyone in the village made something featuring flowers for this event which was in aid of raising funds for our little Church, All Saints of Houghton, Hampshire. They made creations with paper, old tubs, wellies, you name it! I only saw photographs as we were away for the actual event, which was such a shame.

The flowers for this cake featured mainly poppies to mark the 70th Anniversary of D-Day in June and also the Centenary of the First World War.

The cottage can is all cake from top to toe, with marzipan covering and royal icing and fondant decoration (see pic four).

The lady who won this cake was so thrilled and is keeping it for Christmas. She asked when I needed the cold porcelain flowers back and couldn’t believe it when I said they were all part of the cake and hers to keep!! I was so humbled by that.

Thank you for looking! :)
