PPE (Construction Worker's Uniform) Cake

PPE (Construction Worker's Uniform) Cake

I work for a Railway Construction Company where the men all dress in a rather indelicate shade of radioactive orange. Our Health & Safety Manager was leaving us for pastures new so I made him a Good Luck cake with his work kit on to send him on his merry way.

8" madeira split into three layers, filled with jam and buttercream and covered it in white fondant.
I modelled a pair of workboots, gloves, safety glasses, hard-hat and hi-vis jacket from pre-coloured fondant and painted the hi-vis highlights with silver dusting powder mixed with a little clear alcohol after running a stitching wheel along the edges. I used the top of a lemon juicer to model/dry the hard hat. I laid pieces of leftover hi-vis strips along a rolled out strip of orange fondant and glued them down with sugar glue. I then cut out the lettering for GOOD LUCK and attached it to the sides of the cake with a little more sugar glue.

Adorable! I love how the reflective strips on his jacket really look like they are reflecting and the gloves are great! Good work!

You did a real nice job with this. I love the reflective strips too! When I first saw it, I thought it was for a fire fighter. What a great idea to use for all different kinds of occupations, Dr., Nurse, Dentist, Fire Fighter, Police Officer, Chef and baker! The list would be endless! Thanks for the great inspiration. Straight to favs!
