Owl First Birthday Cake and smash cake

While I am very happy with this cake, and I did work quite hard on it, I can tell there are problems with it. Can anyone tell me why it looks almost smooched, I tried very hard to get straight sides, but can never seem to make it work. What am I doing wrong? It was a funfetti cake, frosted with cream cheese buttercream, and covered in marshmallow fondant.
