“Please kind sir, dear ma’am, would you buy some matches from me?”
‘The Little Match Girl’ from Disney’s 2006 short film is the character I have chosen to create in sugar for the Bake a Christmas Wish Collaboration. I chose this film because I was captivated by the film’s visually rich style set to beautiful music. There is no dialogue in this film that runs for less than 7 minutes. I also wanted to portray another side of Christmas as experienced by those less fortunate and living in poverty.
Cliick on http://youtu.be/uTE7CVCuMz0 to watch the film.
This is the scene where she strikes all the remaining matches and in the glow of the light, she is transported to a warm and cozy place where she sees a magnificent Christmas tree. The Christmas tree is a 15 inches high cone shaped macaron tower decorated with fondant leaves, strings of fondant pearls, edible pearls and piped royal icing ‘snowmen’ and ‘gingerbread men’ decorations. More than 60 LED lights were embedded in the backdrop behind the tree to give it an ethereal glow.
Thank you to my lovely friend Sarah Clark of The Cake Tin for introducing me to this project. It’s been a wonderful experience for me to be able to work together with such wonderful and talented bakers with the goal to raise money for a worthy cause “Make A Wish” Foundation.
