I decided to start DeniseMakesCakes because birthdays have always been my favorite time to celebrate. From the time I was young, cakes, baking, and other yummy goodies have always been synonymous with a celebration. Twelve years ago, I began making cakes for my nephews. I enjoyed making the cakes so much and they were such a hit, that I decided to make a career out of it.

I graduated from the Institute of Culinary Education in February 2011 with a diploma in Pastry and Baking Arts. In June 2012, I graduated from ICE’s Culinary Management program in which I was voted Most Likely to Succeed. I am always striving to learn as much as I can about cake artistry! Honing my skills with cake sculpting, sugar flowers, and sugar work I have completed Advanced Pastry classes with cake masters Elisa Strauss, Michelle Bommarito, Karen Portaleo, Susan Notter, Stevi Auble, and Ron Ben Israel.

I have my NYC certificate in food protection and am ServSafe certified. Most recently, I was a competitor on the Food Network’s Cake Wars! I have also made a cake for HBO’s latest hit, Vinyl.
