we have always been taught not to put wires into cakes to use either straws or the posie thingies the wires apparently react with the fruit in a cake same as wrapping up a fruit cake in foil. also if a wire breaks off in the cake someone will choke on it. i would also let them know that the flowers on wires are also not edible due to the wires. comon sense but you do see adults and children eating them anyway as long as you have covered your back you should be ok.
