My client requested an ocean-themed cake with a mermaid. She sent me a GORGEOUS picture of a mermaid as inspiration that immediately captured my imagination. The mermaid is swimming away in the picture, so that’s why I have the mermaid face down on the cake, as she is supposed to be swimming away from you. She has a pretty face & I was hoping it would show more, but it just didn’t work well with the positioning.

I was inspired by the gorgeous beading of the competition swimsuits created for the bodybuilding stage, of which I compete in the Figure division. The suits are actually stoned with Swarovski crystals, but I tried to recreate the look of the stoning with sugar pearls. I like the effect & want to refine it further & use it more!

The cake is chocolate mud with Amaretto buttercream filling & milk chocolate ganache. All edible.
