Vintage birdcage cake
I have wanted to make a birdcage cake since I started cake making just over a year ago and finally a regular customer of mine ordered one!
I was so excited to start this, there were a lot of first for me here!
I really wanted it to be special for them.
A few weeks before the cake was due they asked If I could add a tea cup filled with water with floating flowers on top and a robin sat on the edge. I had no idea how to do this! I kept worrying the bird would break the cup or the gel would soften it!
Luckily I have lots of fab lovely cakey friends who gave me help and advice so I managed to pull it off, then the day before the cake was due it suddenly came to me that I could do a flat image of a robin!
The customers loved the cake, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
The board is all hand painted, I used sugarveil on the birdcage trim and i used gold paint on the edges of the flowers to bring it all together :)
