Urban Alice in Wonderland! Urban Alice in Wonderland! Urban Alice in Wonderland! Urban Alice in Wonderland!

I’ve been making cakes now for 6 years and each year I’ve been tempted to enter Cake International but not had the confidence… well Nov 2016 I did it!! I entered this piece, having never been to a competition I really didn’t know the standard expected, I walked into the hall and I was just blown away by the amazing artistry! Right at that point I wanted to hide my cake and run away, I felt completely out of my depth, but I placed my cake on the table and hoped for the best, I thought to myself ‘use this moment as experience and get as much feedback from the judges as you can so you know what to do next time’. Anyway the next day was judging day, I couldn’t make it to the hall so waited eagerly for the results to be posted online… I started at the bottom of the list, looking for my name in the ungraded… it wasn’t there, then the merits… it wasn’t there, my heart started pounding as I looked in the bronze list… it wasn’t there either, I thought for a second ‘maybe I missed my name’ but I carried onto the Silver list and there it was, right at the top of the silvers my name! Literally the best feeling! My first competition and I achieved a silver! I had worked so hard and it was recognised, I just couldn’t believe it… I have the bug now and can’t wait for the next one in march!

I used a few different techniques on the cake including wafer paper, sugarpaste and isomat!

My inspiration for the cake came from the amazing artwork of Rita Vjodorowa.
