In Greek mythology, Tethys was the Titan goddess of the primal font of fresh water which nourishes the earth, daughter of Uranus and Gaia, and the wife of her brother the Titan-god Oceanus, the earth-encircling, fresh-water stream and the mother of the river gods and the Oceanids (nymphs of springs, streams and fountains)
