Japanese inspired Kanzashi cupcakes. This was my cupcake entry for the Iowa State Fair 2015. I got first place in the cupcake division. I picked the colors based on the Asian traditions. I made the hair forks separate and then assembled them into each cupcake. Everything is edible. I used my own gumpaste recipe to afford a very elastic paste that will hold the many fold the flowers require without cracking. It was a lot of work for each cupcake… I just did it for the competition, but I think I’ll not take a order of a dozen!
