Succulent Naked Cake

Succulent Naked Cake

I made this for a cousin who was doing a cookies & milk bar at her wedding. She sent me a pic of a popular google search nearly naked cake. She wanted one tier just to cut & she would get the decorations. I didn’t want to push but somehow knew I wasn’t going to make just one tier & was hoping to add some decorations. Well, we went back & forth & she asked if I could do a small 3 tier & of course I agreed. I told her I make them for family events all the time which she know since her mom is always hosting big family get togethers. I think she didn’t want to impose lol. She offered to pay which I refused. We were discussing the tree trunk porcelain cake stand she go & I said I don’t think that will hold a tiered cake & suggested the tree base which she liked & I picked up for her. She did the engraving. When she picked up the tree to engrave I asked what her decorations would be & she said succulents. I said you know they are popular in cakes & she said she had just heard about them. I said “do you want me to make a few & if you like them, I’ll make them for the cake?” She shyly agreed, loved the samples & this is what she got. It went perfectly with her décor and the venue. A beautiful bride & a beautiful wedding! I will also post the pictures of the succulents & flowers in the box. I’m not a fan of the naked cakes but was pleased with how it came out.

Love this. It’s beautiful cakes like this that has turned me from a naked cake hater to a naked cake lover. lol

Thank you! I still want to cover it with fondant though. lol I had to laugh 2 other friends had naked cakes this weekend. One was half naked – a ruffle tier & naked on top & the other totally naked. She said it was the easiest cake she ever made because she bought pre-made peonies. I was nervous traveling with it stacked. I used the Wilton Crisco icing for the barrier. I added their butter flavor & it was good. It had chocolate filling & she said she didn’t want to see any chocolate on the outside.

I am not a fan of the naked cakes. I have always thought they were “lacking” and so ugly, but yours is pretty and caught my eye. Good job.
