Watering can with flowers

I am so disappointed with this cake😞, hours of prep making my flowers and butterfly to be ruined by saggy fondant and oversized spout!!!! The heat has had effect on my fondant I think. The cake is for my friends husband who is a keen gardener, I’m sure they will like it and be too polite to say anything else. Followed the instructions word for word from a tutorial in a cake decorating booklet my Mum bought me at a boot sale but mine sure doesn’t look like the pic!!
I don’t charge for my cakes so at least I won’t have to suffer the embarrassment of refusal to pay!!
On the up side, really pleased with my butterfly. I Find wired work so fiddly and really hard pulling bits together to create a complete object. Something I hope I find easier with time and practice.

Your flowers and butterfly are lovely. You did a great job. Every watering can is different. Some have short spouts, some long… It’s not wrong or right, it’s your interpretation. I’m sure he’ll love it, and all the effort you’ve put into it.
I actually think from the picture your cake is leaning. Did you put strong dowels in your cake? If not, cake will not support the weight of your fondant, and will naturally start to sag. Been there, done that. And we all learn from experience, best teacher. Don’t beat yourself up. We learn and improve with every cake we make.

Well said Jchuck!!! We’ve all gone through our own share of trouble, humidity is a killer, using dowels is a must, you live and learn, I have always said that if at first you don’t succeed DO NOT GIVE UP, keep going and mos of all, enjoy yourself creating sweet treasures!!!

Thanks for your kind comments, really appreciate them. Cake was indeed dowelled, the back was slightly curved as my watering is in the garden. Handle was a quick makeshift one as my original modelling/gum paste one broke into 3 pieces whilst trying to attach!!
