Tinkerbell Birthday Cake

This cake was inspired by a cake I saw by Cakes In The City…but I wasn’t taking my daughter to England for her birthday! This cake had a LOT of first for me…first time using the giant cupcake pan, to start. The cake was covered by buttercream – pink for the “cupcake” liner and purple rosettes on the top. Then I added yellow blossoms made from fondant with white sugar pearl centers. I then added butterflies made from poured isomalt, that had bubble gum flavor and pink coloring added (another first). Tinker Bell sits atop this cake…with her arms and legs crossed – showing much the attitude that my 3-year-old typically has. Tinker Bell was made from a fondant/gumpaste mix and her wings were made from isomalt. Tinker Bell’s clothing is fashioned after the “new” costume pictured on the Disney Fairies website (http://disney.go.com/fairies/). The cake is strawberry with fresh strawberry filling.
