ANZAC day hat cake

In 1915, during WWI, Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on the beach in Gallipoli and found themselves pinned down by enemy fire. Out of this engagement came stories of bravery and mateship that became legendary. Now the 25th of April has become a national day of rememberance to recognise all war casualties from all of the armed forces of these countries, and the sacrifice they made.
This cake has been shaped as an Australian infantry hat, complete with the AIF badge from WWI. The pup, who thinks he’s so clever putting muddy paws all over his master’s hat and sitting there so proudly, is an Australian blue cattle dog.
The board cover is made up of newspaper articles from the Gallipoli landing and WWI and includes a photo of my grandfather in his uniform.
