I was pleasantly surprised and honoured when Cake Masters asked me to contribute a piece to their Steampunk Hat Collection for their November issue. I have always loved the whole look and feel of the Steampunk sub-culture and if you will recall, made a cake in that style for my own birthday this past February. But I had so many ideas for it that I really wanted to incorporate them all into that design but had to edit myself, knowing it would have overwhelmed the piece. So I was delighted that I could play around with some other things that I had wanted to try in the Steampunk style.

So here is the result…similar to my previous cake, but updated and with an edgier vibe to it, featuring two-toned ruffles and swags. I also used my stylized wafer paper roses (tutorial available here) on this which were coloured using my petal dust/oil mixture technique (read more about it in my blog here).

This is my first ever feature print publication! I am so pleased, humbled and surprised to be included amongst such amazing Steampunk pieces that were also featured in this issue. Thanks again to Cake Masters for the honour and our dear Laura for thinking of me =D
