Ever wondered why McQueen, the star of the “Cars” movies is nicknamed ‘Lightning’? Because he is as fast as lightning? Of course not! A bolt of lightning can travel at speeds of up to 130,000 miles per hour. Why, at that speed, McQueen would have been burned up into cinders in a flash! Even at a mere 250 miles per hour, McQueen’s tyres would have simply melted off the rims or burst into flames after 15 minutes! So what is the real reason for McQueen’s electrifying name? Easy! He has a fascination with lightning and loves to zoom around town during electrical storms with bolts of lightning iluminating the skies. Lightning McQueen loves to live dangerously!

Made this “Cars” themed cake for 2 year old Oliver last September. The original design was an airbrushed blue ‘pop up effect’ cake featuring Lightning McQueen on top and decorated with fondant cutout lightning bolts at the sides. Somehow I got carried away with the airbrushing and ended up with this airbrushed lightning effect.
