I loved making this birthday cake – The gruffalo is without doubt one of my favourite childrens books so to be asked to make a cake version was a pleasure. The cake itself was a carved vanilla sponge with jam and buttercream filling with sugarpaste coating. The depth and detailing on the Gruffalo was achieved using an airbrush.
