Balinese henna design

This was a labour of love… my best friend’s wedding cake. Between baking, shaping/stacking, icing and piping it took me about 2.5 days (I’d only ever made 1 cake before that took me more than 1.5 and it was an enormous Cinderella castle wedding cake).

This design was a combination of a conical cake the bride had seen with roses and butter cream, and a henna/mehndi piped cake that I had on display in my old shop.

We picked lots of bits of henna design on-line and used them as inspiration to pipe freehand. We both love purple (and my bridesmaid dress was purple) so the colour was always going to be purple.

At the venue it was set up with spiral purple florist wire and fresh orchids going around the board. This is one of my all time favourites from my portfolio.
