A FUN cake for a Moulin Rouge themed party! She wanted black, red & purple, which are my 3 VERY favorite colors. I really enjoyed piping the royal icing embroidery. I don’t get to do that very often.

I tried a new cake for this one, as the client wanted the ‘taste’ of the cake to be French as well. So I tried to adapt the famous French Opera Cake into a ‘carveable’ cake, & it worked great for the top part of the corset. But despite having many wooden dowels in the bottom, it collapsed when I put the top on! Aaaarrrrgh! So I quickly learned it wouldn’t support weight. And it also put me WAY behind because I had to hurriedly bake another cake, so I barely finished it in time to get to the party!

So there ended up being 3 cakes: French Opera Cake (almond cake with Espresso buttercream alternated with Mocha Kahlua buttercream), Australian Chocolate Mud (I knew THAT would support the corset!), & red velvet cake with white chocolate buttercream for the skirt. All edible except for the feather & pearls.
