Simple Christening Cake

A 12" deep vanilla sandwich with whipped vanilla buttercream, the challenge with this cake was to keep it as simple and fuss-free as the client wanted – you know me, I like to decorate! The star of the show was the edible replica of St. Cuthbert’s cross which I built up with TINY individually hand-rolled beads of flowerpaste and then painted with edible gold and purple lustres. White, purple and gold – very ecclesiastical! 100% edible. The client collected this cake so early that I had to photograph it in the dark and my camera doesn’t do so well without natural daylight, so apologies for the grainy photos. Happy Christening Day Bertie :) xx
