Mum's Sewing Machine Cake

I know I have said in the past, that the cakes that I post are special to me. But, this cake is the most special. It is for my amazing mother. She came to this country in 1957 with my late father from Indonesia, to start a new life together. They had four children, with me being the youngest. My mother is a dressmaker/ pattern maker and designer. She had her own little dress making shop in Wangaratta (That’s a small country town in Victoria), where I was born many moons ago. After my father past away 39 years ago, she was left to raise four kids on her own. It was difficult to make a living in such a small town, so we packed up and moved to the Big Smoke, Melbourne. She had many jobs working for lots of well known sportswear brands like Diadora, Exacto and Le Coq Sportif. At one stage she worked for Adidas for 8 years and even designed the Australian uniform for the Olympic games. She is an amazing woman! We are all so very happy that she has made it to this wonderful milestone, as she has been battling ovarian cancer for the last 2 years. I am extremely happy that I was able to create this cake for her, and I pray that she will be around for me to make her many more.
