Antique Gold Painted Buttercream Cake

Antique Gold Painted Buttercream Cake
Antique Gold Painted Buttercream Cake

All buttercream cake painted with gold luster mixed with gold airbrush paint. It was just a practice cake, I really wanted to try out painting metallics on buttercream, pretty happy with the result! Gumpaste peony tipped in gold. Thanks for looking! :)

LOVE, love, love this! I cannot believe this is painted buttercream! WOuld you mind sharing the process of achieving the look?

You should be happy!! This is really beautiful!

Thank you so much — I love it when “playing” turns out the way I hope!
I let the buttercream crust and refrigerated the cake until it was very firm, then I painted the gold airbrush color on with a fan brush. I let that coat dry before mixing the gold luster & airbrush paint, painted over again. Let dry again and brushed on some gold luster just on certain areas to finish! :)

Thank you – will have to try!!!!! I keep looking at it not believing is buttercream!!! I’m new to decorating, but I didin’t know this look was possible on frosting!!

This is wonderful! I love painting on buttercream too.

Errr…you should be MORE than happy with the results Shannon! This is INCREDIBLE and what an awesome technique! If only I could get buttercream smooth enough, I would give this a whirl. Alas I suck at buttercream but I’m guessing it may still work for fondant too! =D

Thank you Sugarpixy – I am such a huge fan of your work — so incredibly gorgeous!! :)

Thank you sweet Violet — it totally works on fondant too! I just did a red fondant cake using gold paint with the same process and it turned out great! Working in layers seems to be the trick, at least for me! :)
