What did you adhere the spout with? Melted candy melts are the best to use. I noticed your teapot sits directly on the cake, in a class I,took they put the pot on top of a fondant covered styro base, which was to look like part of the pot. Then the dowel was driven, on an angle not straight thru the cake and into the styro base. I think that was your problem, driving the dowel between the two cake boards. Also, what did you use to make the spout? I hope this helps

I made the spout from gumpaste/fondant and just glued it to the fondant cake…which did not work ;-) I thought of the styro base may have to go that route however I still would have to put a cardboard under the styro otherwise the dowels holding up the teapot would go through the the styro….right?

In the class, spout & handle were modeling choc.
To attach the spout, drive the dowel BELOW the cardboard between your cake layers. Angle it downwards,‘it will go through the cake board under your cake and into the styro base. Leave enough dowel sticking out so yo can put your spout on it. Once it hits the styro base it should be pretty secure. You do not have to have the spout dowel go thru the whole base, just enough to be secure (give it a wiggle, you’ll feel it’s secure). Just using glue to attach a gumpaste spout would not hold because of the weight, you need the dowel and the melted candy melts as your glue.

Oh gosh I really hope so, hate to get the cake there with issues. Thanks again your a great help

Viewed your cakes they are beautiful!! Just wondering if I cannot find a thinner then bummy size styro for the teapot as you mentioned would rice krispie work? just shape at bottom of teapot cover as you mentioned the dowel should hold in that right?

Also I saw your candle how did you make the snow with doughnut glaze or meringue icing? I like the way it drooped I have a cake with snow on top to do this week…Thanks again ;-)

Thank you for the compliment. My candle cake drippings are made with thinned down Royal Icing. Now for the teapot base, the styro base is a 6" circle 2" high. Place a 4" cake circle,on the top of the base and carve down to the bottom of the base—keeping the 6" diameter. Just like you would taper a cake. So the cake would rest on the 4" and the 6" diameter,is on the table. (If that makes sense) I have never used krispie treats, but it my understanding they harden very well, so that might work. I would still carve in the manner I wrote. I hope this all works out for you, good luck!

will do

Margie.
I got a styrofoam circle,it is now do I cover the styro with foil first? or just icing the styro then fondant it, do I use chocolate to glue the cake to the fondant stryo base or icing? The underside of the teapot cake i do not cover in fondant so of course the cake will be showing so would icing not be better to glue to the stryo base?
Also I still need to put the thin cardboard plate under the foam for stacking the teapot on the lower table cake other wise the dowels will go through the styro right? Would icing or chocolate be better to glue the cardboard to upper and lower cake…I always used icing. Guess if I remember to put a long dowel from base of table cake up through the teapot that will help keep it from moving.
..just wondering when I cut the stacking cardboard I always foil mine thinking the icing will soften it due to the cut part… do you do this? is it needed to be done?
I kinda know the answers but just like some input I always doubt myself ;-) .. just do not want this cake to fall apart before it gets there ;-) Thanks Margie!

Hi Angie, I ice the styro with Royal Icing first then add my cake. As usual you have a cake circle under your cake to begin with. So no contact with the styro circle. I would use chocolate to attaché the cake to the base. You want the dowel to go thru the styro circle for stability . The cake circles,I ise under my cakes are coated so I have no,issues. I purchase them at Hobby Lobby, they are great! I hope you have a store near you. I don’t know if they have a store in Canada. Maybe online? If I didn’t answer all your ? Let me know
