Awesome well done & i didn’t notice the eror x

I didn’t notice the error either Ellie. Saw the pic before I read the your content. Don’t think you’re grandson noticed….that’s what counts!!

oh yes… ive done typos too…. i didn’t notice the typo on yours, I was too busy looking at your fab Chinook!!! <3

You must never limit your challenges, instead you must challenge your limits

Oh bless you – that is so easily done. Even when writing I often put a b instead of a d and at least it was for your grandson and not a stroppy customer :-)
Off to have a look…. xx

Yes, I’ve done that too. “Birtday” :) makes your heart sink, but I really did not notice it on your cake, which was amazing…

HE is my rock and my strong tower

Anita, June Elli, Calli, Julia and Jan thank you for your kind comments and support!! I knew I could count on my cake friends to make me feel better! My husband says we see what we expect to see! I think he is right because I don’t know how I missed it!!

🙋🏻🙋🏻🙋🏻. I spelled anniversary wrong by accidentally leaving out the first “r”! Didn’t notice until a friend pointed it out! I had already delivered the cake and it was 11:00 pm! If anyone noticed, nothing was ever said!!! Lol!

Melanie Mangrum Cakes

I too like Melanie forgot the first “r” in anniversary I had written on a cake but I also wrote happy 21st on someone’s cake who was only 18 . luckily I knew the family and they had a laugh about it and the fact that his aunt who collected the cake never even noticed . Your cake is fantastic and I’m sure your grandson will have loved it :)

Thank you Melaine and mjh! Glad to know that I’m not alone in this! LOL!! If anyone at my grandson’s party noticed they didn’t say anything either!!!

Yes, I’ve done it before too…more of us than you think! =D

Thank you Violet! That makes me feel better!!!

Don’t fret it Ellie! Your cake is fantastic, and things like that happen even to the best, especially when you are finishing up a cake at 2 am!!

Thank you Toni! I can’t blame a late night for my mistake! This cake came together a lot faster than I thought it would which was nice for a change!!! lol!!!

Yip me too 🙋 I had the wrong spelling on a Communion cake missed out the first n.
Took loads of pics shared on my business page, then my brother text me to say it was wrong. No one, even the customer noticed, I did message her to let her know but she said that nobody at the party noticed either! Now when I see the cake my eyes are drawn to it.

I once had to make a birthday cake for a girl called “ANISA”. I was sooo stressed with this cake, that when I wrote her name I wrote “ANSIA”. Just as I was about to deliver the cake a Brazilian friend of mine popped round, looked at the cake and said: “What a name for a girl!” I looked at the name and it struck me. “Ansia” in Portuguese means “Anxiety” or “Stress”. LOL! Luckily it was easy to correct it.
Btw, your cake looks absolutely FANTASTIC!

Maria

I once spelled a girl’s name wrong on cookies. No fixing those. I put “Sophia” instead of “Sofia”. I was so embarssed when the mom came to get the cookies and said the cookies look great but you spelled her name wrong. My heart just sank. Thank god it was a friend of mine and she was very understanding. Your cake came out great and I am sure your grandson was super happy with the cake and didn’t even notice.

Lilian I KNOW what you mean! That is all I see when I look at the cake now!!! LOL!!! And now a days there are so many ways to spell a name! Many like to put their own twist on it! Misspelling a name is a easy mistake to make! Guess it is best to always ask how the name is spelled! I am sorry you all have gone through this but I am happy to know I am not alone!!! LOL!!! And thank you for all the nice compliments on my cake! Appreciate it!!!

Yes, been there done that :)

Sorry Ellie I have been away for a few days from cakesdecor so I feel bad I missed this when it was posted. I think you did a fantastic job and yes we have all made these mistakes. I now try to take pictures at home first and look at them before I even let the customer pic the cake up. I usually pic up any mistakes this way while I am editing it. Sometimes I even send the pics to the customer to let them look it over as well. There is something about seeing something on the computer screen while you are editing the pics that makes us find these mistakes. I once had the wrong age on a cake and lucky I sent the pic to the boys mum before I left the house so I had time to fix it. Once again you did a great job you should be very proud of yourself. Oh and I agree this cake is so much easier than it looks. What did you end up using for your blades?

No need to apologize Sharon! Thank you for your sweet compliment! I’m just a Grandma baking birthday cakes for my grandkids! Mine was not anywhere near as big or fabulous as yours! Which was AMAZING by the way! I just used large popsicle sticks for the blades! My husband mounted them on wood dowels so they did rotate! Wish I had seen your tutorial before I made my cake. I didn’t have that angled board for the tail end to sit on and after a 4 hour car ride (AND on a 90 degree day the air conditioning in our car decided to go out) the tail end was drooping a little!!! LOL!!! Not too bad though all things considered!! Thanks again!

Oh Ellie so sorry to hear that and yes the structure was so super simple. I love the idea of popsicle sticks a great idea and thinking out side the box. Well I loved it and am sure your grandson did to. Great job and keep up the good work!

Thank you so much Sharon!

Yes, I spelled someone’s name wrong, and had to change it with the customer watching over me.

I also spelled another customers name wrong too, which was their fault in the first place for mis-spelling it in an email.

I didn’t notice yours either, the cake’s amazing!

I so have done that :( My husband is brilliant and always comes and looks at my cakes when they are finished and he often points out something I have missed or done wrong, especially the writing.
My last frozen cake I forgot to put Olafs buttons on (I expect everyone on CD noticed as I posted pics before I realised) I still wouldn’t of known I had done it had not my little 5 year old niece mentioned it. The cake was for her and she loved it, she actually screamed when she saw it and thought it was amazing then stood looking at it and then as calm as you like said “oh no Olaf has no buttons on” …..I was gutted. How could I miss something so obvious. :/. Luckily it was my family and we all had a giggle about it. x

ellie's elegant cakery

LOL!!! Ellie your story reminded me of the time my granddaughter pointed out that I forgot to put tails on the bunnies on the Easter cake I had made!!

missed the H out of Birthday on a 18th Birthday cake that was 2 foot by 1 foot, never noticed until dropping it at the venue – now when anyone asks me to make a cake with a name in it I make them sent it to me in an email – paranoid lol
