Hi Jill,

My 3 year old son and I were scouring the Internet for cake ideas for his 4th birthday and came accross your power ranger cake! He instantly loved it! I am very much a novice at cake decorating but have done several fondant cakes for my 2 children. Would you be able to give me any tips on how you put this cake together? Thank you so much! Your work is amazing!!!

Thanks for your time!
Kyra

Hi Kyra!
I’m more than happy to share my tips with you! I’m at work but I will message you back once I get home.

Thanks for the compliment! I’m still a novice too so anything to help out a fellow caker!

Jill,

I am starting to gather all of my things for the cake baking process and was wondering how you tinted the frosting for the cupcakes? Did you use a spray food coloring?

Thanks sooooooo much!!

I used Wilton gel color but spraying would work too. I had to use quite a bit of color so spraying might actually be better.

Jill,

Thank you so much for all of your assistance! Here is the cake I made! Yours is much more perfect, but mine definitely was a hit!! Thanks again!

You did a wonderful job!! Thanks for sending me pictures!!

I’m so glad it was a hit!!

Hi am also wanting to make a power rangers cake and really liked this one, was wondering what the head was made of and how you got it to sit up there.

Thanks in advance.

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
The head is made out of rice krispy treats. It was molded with the Wilton 3d skull pan. I had a dowel inserted through the head and it went through the cake.

Thanks alot trying to figure the best way to do it.

Hey Jill,
This cake is beautiful. I am attempting to make this cake. Instead of rice krispy’s for the head, can I use couple of 4 in cakes & a 1/2 ball to shape the head & use a dowel rod to hold all the layers. How much do you charge for this cake, if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks for your advise.

Hi!
You can definitely make the head out of 4inch cakes and the 1/2 ball. I’m not the greatest at carving so I cheated and used the skull pan. :)

I actually didn’t charge for this cake since it was for my cousin. I base my pricing on servings so this cake would have been at least $100.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Jill. I’m not the greatest at sculpting a cake either, that’s why I thought of the 4 in & 1/2 ball … closes to that shape. Thanks so much for your advise. I appreciate it.

Hi my friends little boy has just found this cake and now wants me to make it for his birthday next week, ive looked all over but just can’t seem to find a way of doing the black and white that covers the face! Are you able to point me in the right direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you x p.s your works awesome x

I would do an internet search for Red Power Ranger helmet. Just find the image that would work best and cut it out from regular paper and you will have a template. Just resize the image so that it will cover the face. I would then place the template on black fondant and cut it out. Then place the black part of the mask on white fondant and just trace around the black so that you can see the white background.

Hope this helps!

This link is a really good picture that you cut your template from.
