I don’t get many requests for masculine cakes, but like most bakers I know, I find it difficult, impossible even, to say no to a challenge! So when I was asked to make a 50th birthday cake and co-ordinating cupcakes for a golfing fanatic I nervously said yes! My brief was to include the Ryder Cup and only to use the colour navy! The trophy was a huge learning curve but after many hours I pulled it off and ended up with something the birthday boy was thrilled to receive. The eight inch cake it sits atop is vanilla butter sponge with raspberry conserve and white chocolate ganache filling / crumbcoating.

Evening your cake is amazing, I was wondering if you would share your secrets, as I have been asked to make a Ryder Cup for a Golf fanatic….
Did you make the top of the cup out of cake or polystern?
And did you just mould the stem or carve out?:
