Dual sided wedding cakes are the rage these days, and I totally dig the concept…when two sides come together as one.
Joining this dainty gal to her rugged gent was a lot of fun. If you look closely you can see I’ve created each side to work together in holding on to one another. Eyelets are looped over tack nails, plate screws are securing floor boards and taffeta, while ribbon has wrapped itself around bolts made of isomalt. Even the butterflies are comprised of machinery and delicate wings. For you hardcore cakers, you’ll notice only half the board is covered…did I blow your mind? LOL
The brides side is ivory with a pearl sheen, just enough to make her glisten. Pearl drapes and sparkling dragees are here and there and slight piping to finish off the mid tier.
The grooms side is meant to look like copper and pipes with cranks and rivets. The mid tier is a stained wood panel with inner working gears and the top tier is diamond plate stapled to its partner.
The couple was inspired by artist Kikuike Handmade Studio for their topper. I created mine from polymer and resin, and to fit the theme matched the base to the cake and gave Chomp a top-hat fit with Steampunk goggles.
I love this style. Really fun, great imaginative couple! Thanks for looking >O-O<
