This is a quick and easy little pumpkin face cupcake tutorial for you to make for halloween
So for this topper I used styrofoam but you can use the same technique for a real cake with edible image. ;) I cut my styrofoam with a Hot wire using the template as my guide. https://www.facebook.com/verusca.walker#!/hotwirefoamfactory?fref=tsI use a sand block to smoothe my styrofoam and cream shortening to stick my fondant. And them I just cut the images from my template and glue it to the fondant with tylose glue. ;)It is easy quick and incredible effective.
Ok, This is how to centre dowel a cake if you feel its very tall/top heavy/ etcThere are multiple ways, but this is how I did it for this specific cake. With a little help from my cakey friends :) 1.I cut a circle out from MDF with my new jigsaw cutter (yup yup!) It made lots of noise in the front garden…but you didnt really need to know that. You then counter sink a hole in the centre (not all the way through!) which is the same size as your dowel (in this case 9mm) Put a lit...

I came up with this last summer after struggling to try and find a way to fill small candy gem molds with isomalt. It’s fast, cheap and easy when you need a quick gem and don’t fill like working with hot sugar. You will need: candy gem molds unflavored gelatin (I use Knox) food color paintbrush piping gel or royal icing You need to make the gelatin, in order to do that mix 2 1/2 parts water to 1 part gelatin. I normally do 3TBSP gelatin (about...
I know most of you will be whizzes at these but for anyone still struggling here’s a little sequence of pictures I did for a friend who couldn’t work them.. Roll your fondant out thinly, push down with your cutter and wiggle it to get a clean cut, line it up against another row if letters and flick it back like a ruler, flicking in down onto the other row then the desired letter should come out nicely. Leave to set for a couple of mins then use xx
I’ve never done a tutorial before, so please bare with me and if anything isn’t clear, I’d be happy to answer questions about any of the steps. I chose to do a tutorial on my sunflower because I’ve had the most requests asking how to make them. Next will be my lion or elephant figurine, but my favorite thing to make are flowers. #1 Begin with a slightly flattened ball of gumpaste or fondant/gumpaste mix. #2 Use a small strainer and press down to make an impre...
Preparing and Covering a Square Cake To Ganache: 1. Layer cake with ganache and affix to baseboard with ganache. 2. Affix baseboard to workboard with ganache. 3. Trim cake so there is a 3 -5mm space between the cake and the edge of the baseboard allthe way around. 4. Ganache sides of the cake, paying particular attention to the corners- it is important tocompletely fill the corners with ganache. With scraper edge held directly at the point ofeach corner, check there is sufficie...
Just a quick note (hopefully) with a few hints on how to create a seamless join when you want to have more than one colour of fondant covering your cake, with no overlaps. 1. Start by calculating the size fondant you need to cover the top half of the cake (in my case, the blue). I wanted the blue to come halfway down the sides of the cake so my fondant needed to be 7” (the top of the cake) + 2.25” (the cake was 4.5” high) x 2 (for each side) = 11.5” diameter. ...
