Preggy Belly, Baby Rump, Pets....how do you feel about eating your own...?

Baby Bump cakes, baby rumps, babies, pets….I can’t imagine cutting into a cake that looked like my pet cat, or a preggy belly torso? I have to say I would feel iffy to cut a cake that looked like my own tummy (worse with a baby poking out!!!) For that matter even cakes which have the edible image photo of the person on it!!! Of course as a cake maker I have made them happily and will make whatever my customer wants…well…. to an extent – I do have a cut off! Does anyone else feel like this? This is only for discussion – and not meant to offend anyone!

I absolute looooove animals. I have a hard time thinking of slicing a dog because I inturn think like you. Imagine having to cut my dog. Can’t do it!! And won’t make cakes of the likeness for such reasons.

Personally i don’t have a problem with it as long as it’s not a baby!! :oS
I don’t think i can bring myself to cutting into a lil baby…

Cake Rocks!😆

I know we have to follow what clients want but I’d rather not make those types of cakes – if I can help it. I really feel uncomfortable with the pregnant belly cake that has a baby foot showing -sorry but it creeps me out.

I also feel the same. Most of these novelty cakes – pets, preggy mum etc have “a psychological twist” that leaves a not so pleasant feeling. When working on such cakes, have to constantly remind myself “it is just a cake & not the real thing”.

I personally feel they are a bit odd too. I would not want a cake of my pet or pregnant belly. I’ve always felt they are odd, a bit weird and not for me. But hey they are pretty popular, not for me though. I’m not sure I’d even want to make one. So I agree with the others. This is a good topic, I’ve always wondered why people would want them. I just thought I was the odd one. Good to know I’m in good company.

The crazy thing for me with you bringing up this subject is I just did a pregnant belly bikini cake this weekend. I myself am not a fan of these types of cakes. I used the tutorial from Cake Central and was really pleased with how it turned out. However I still have not posted it to my facebook page in fear I may offend someone.

BellaCakes & Confections – don’t worry – do post away…they don’t really offend anyone – they are popular cakes actually…some actually look pretty when proportions are right….and I would make one too if asked…but just the concept for me is a bit out…not cake related… but well I feel a bit weird when I used to hear the Priest in Church saying…“lets eat his flesh and drink his blood!!!” again not to offend anyone…but just saying…it would be better to say “lets break bread to remember how his body was broken for us…” but hey…..its how you see it I guess…
…But I wouldn’t do one for myself….and even those cakes with a picture printed of the person…feels very ‘Obituary’ for me…worse so if its of the birthday child!
