Amazing 3D Printed Sugar technique

My friend told me about a company that uses 3D printer to print toppers from sugar. I think that this technique will definitely make it easier to create special toppers from sugar.

Is here anyone who tried it already? What do you think about it?

Check out some 3D Printed Sugar photos:

It sounds great and looks amazing. However…..there’s something special about toppers crafted by hand that I will always still prefer. I’m a bit of a softie for cake artists. If I was a large commerical enterprise or kitchen providing for the masses, machine made manufacturing would be a great way to save money and time I suppose.

I’m slightly on the fence with this one. On one hand it could take cake decorating to a whole new level with the exactness, precision and complicated detail that we may never be able to achieve and on top of that, at a fraction of the time. You think the possibilities are endless now, imagine it with a 3D printer.

On the other hand, we produce pieces of art: “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination” there is no room in that definition for ‘machinery’. It will take away the preciousness of a cake, the hard work, the sleepless nights and that great feeling of gratitude and it all being worth it because a machine printed it out. This is just the start, what’s stopping them from printing a cake that actually tastes good one day?

Technology is great, but it’s also killing a lot of things.

Look amazing, but not sure I think the hand sculpting has the wow factor

I see it as another piece of the creative puzzle. I mean, let’s face it, we use machines every time we mix batter or bake a cake! Buyers can see the difference between hand-sculpting and 3D printed toppers. I don’t think this will eliminate hand-crafted decorations or skilled artisans, rather give us another option when designing cakes.

Exactly – it will be just another option how to make your life easier.
