Hi I am a very newbie in cake decorating… But I am really keen to learn this precious art… To start i am trying out recipes that are good and will be sturdy enough to hold all decorations… Seeing all the pictures in this site inspires me a lot to work hard for this craft… I am hoping you cake artists will give me some advice and tips to help me in my learning :) thanks in advance :)

Hi, and welcome to the world of cake decorating. I have been decorating cakes for a little over two years now, and still feel like a newbie, as I am always learning something new. My advice would be to practice, practice, practice. Make cakes for your family, friends, and charities. You will gain experience, and make people very happy with your treats!! You can learn a lot from watching tutorials on You Tube (that’s were I learned how to decorate), and asking questions to all of the nice decorators here on Cakes Decor!

Hi, I started cake decorating about two years ago and although I loved art and all things beautiful, my actual art skills were very limited, or so I thought. Prior to starting in this cake world, I could not even draw a stick figure and I still can’t, but through lots of practice and pretty much learning everything through online tutorials , you tube, and other cake artists’ help, I can safely say I have developed so many skills I never thought I had – piping, fondant/gumpaste sculpting, painting, etc… I learn something new with every cake I make as I’m sure all artists do – it is a growth process and your talents build as you practice and challenge yourself. Best of luck to you!

I’m also fairly new at cake decorating – a year plus – and I love it… every time I have a chance, I look at videos – there are many websites where you can register that actually teach you how to create beautiful cakes. Please, feel free to ask me any questions – I’d love to share what I’ve learned with another newbie!
