Cascade of roses

Hi can anyone give me some tips on how to attach petalpaste roses to a cascad cake? I would assume to use royal icing and build up from the bottom and use the ones below for support, but am concerned that petal paste roses may be too heavy for this. How do other people do it? Any tips gratefully received. Thanks

I may be wrong, but you could build a fondant base support then attach your cascade on to that, covering the support.

I’m currently working on a traditional wedding cake with a cascading gumpaste rose effect. I created each rose on toothpicks and I’m going to stick them into the cake with a little royal icing or just gum glue to help them adhere to the fondant cake. I think the toothpicks should provide enough support. I’m banking on it! Good luck.

Hi, I thought the tooth picks idea would work, but was always taught that sticking things into the actual cake was a no no so as not to introduce bacteria etc into the cake???? But I do think this is probably the safest way to do it but wanted to see what other people thought.

I’ve always read that floral wires are a no-no because the wire is not food safe. I assume toothpicks are food safe because they are always used for h’ordervers and stuff. I’ve never had a problem. Another tecnique I’ve read, which will help also keep floral wires or toothpicks from directly contacting the cake is to insert straws into the cake and then insert the wire or toothpick in there. But then you are sticking straws in the cake which could also introduce bacteria… I use large bubble straws as my support between tiers and this is a techinque used by many so I can only assume and hope it is safe too.
