Hobby baking

Hello, a friend has asked me to make some cakes for her sewing course. I literally only make cakes for friends and family and although I would like to create a business at some point, I’m not there yet.

My question is do I have to register, get kitchen inspected etc before I do this?
I’m not making any money from it.

To start making money legally, you will need to have a licensed kitchen according to your state’s guidelines. Your state health department’s website should have the criteria. To give cakes away, I don’t believe anything is required of you so long as the recipient knows that the cake was prepared in your home kitchen.
