Topic tags/keywords: advice question resource idea tip

I’m looking to get a bigger mixer. I have the Kitchen aid 5 qt and it’s the go to for mixers but checked out the cuisinart. The cuisinart is half the price. Does it matter? Could use your experience/opinions. Thank you.

I have a 6 qt Kitchen Aid but have been eyeing that 7 qt Cuisinart. But the reviews aren’t that good so I am a little hesitant.

Doesn’t KA have a 7 qt out now… about 550.00 at Wms Sonoma? I need one, too.

WHOA…I don’t think I can do 800 for a mixer right now….but definitely that 3-400 dollar range is doable. Thanks for that info.

and I found out that bed bath & beyond carry it and you can use the 20% coupon on top of that. It sounds like a great deal to me.

I didn’t even know about the 7 quart. I have a 6 quart Kitchen Aid, same one for almost 12 years. It’s been dragged to and from places I needed to bake and moved across country 3 times now. It still works great I love it. My want to get a 5 quart Kitchen Aid cause sometimes the bigger ones don’t mix smaller batches as well. Wish I could give you a opinion on Cuisinart but only had the KA. I loved the KA customer service too, I called them when I got my KA (almost 12 yrs ago) and told them it was really loud so it must be broken, I was use to the 5 quart. They shipped me a new one right away…and mine wasn’t broken the 6 quart is lound, has a much bigger motor.

I have the Cuisinart 7 quart. Have had it about 2 years. It took me a while to get used to it after using a KA 5 qt for 9 years. Now I love it but still pull out the 5 qt occasionally for small batches and to use my pasta roller. I get the 7 lb. bag of powdered sugar at Costco and use the whole bag for a bag of icing. The timer feature rocks. No more overbeating. The splash guard is far superior to the KA as well.

i have an old 4.5 qt KA, a 5qt KA Artisan, and a 7qt Cuisinart. I love the 1000wt motor of the Cuisinart…i have to doubt that it is going to be a work horse. My 5qtArtisan is a newer one (glass bowl) and it overheats and loses speeds over 6, BUT i love the way it makes to-the-top-of-the-bowl buttercream recipes. The Cuisinart just doesn’t get the same result as the stirring action of the KA. Even when mixing cake batter, I have to scrape the beater of the Cuisinart because there are air pockets of dry on it, while the KA doesn’t have that issue. That’s a bit annoying, but at least i know it isn’t going to quit. And the Cuisinart has a much better warranty. I would be really interested in the 7qt KA, but considering how shoddy their new construction is, i’m going to wait to see how they review.

I had been saving my money for this viking mixer:
http://www.amazon.com/Viking-Professional-quart-Stand-Mixer/dp/B001AGS1HC
But then Hurricane Irene came along and I had to use the money saved for evacuation expenses.
The price on the Cuisinart looks very appealing. I had a 5 qt KA but I gave it to a friend when I moved up to a 6 qt refurbished KA. I was very disappointed with it. The 5 qt KA last over 20 years. (I was working smaller volume) but the 6qt is less then 6 years old and I feel like I have beat it to death. The lift broke and I repaired it with a bungee cord. It really struggles to knead MMF. I have been babying it because it is all I have until I can save up the $500 for the Viking. My husband did a lot of research on the mixers for me, and he feels the Viking has the power we are looking for. After the 7 qt, I’m going full bore commercial. I’m tired if mixing batch after batch of bc.

well a couple of the features with the cusinart that I love is the splash guard and the timer. I’m tired of flour or poweder sugar getting everywhere. Janipie let me know how you like your mixer.

LOVE my new mixer: the 7 qt Cuisinart ! It has power like you won’t believe! I made 3 mixes of sour cream pound cake batter at once. I think I probably should not do over 2 1/2 to be sure of good mixing, but it is just amazing! I still love my little 4 1/2 qt Kitchen Aide, too, though for smaller batches! Great deal for $329, no shipping and got free blender to use with it, too!
