With the push of the Industrial Revolution, progress led to the automation of tasks. On June 14, 1882, Charles Babbage proposed the use of his differential machine to the Royal Astronomical Society, almost a century later, on that same date, the Steampunk movement began to be celebrated!
Steampunk is a subgenre of Science Fiction, very popular between the 1980s and 1990s, with stories set in the past in which modern technological paradigms occurred earlier than in real history but were obtained through the science already available in that time. Based on a universe of scientific fiction created by consecrated authors such as Jules Verne, HP Lovecraft and Mary Shelley in the late nineteenth century, it shows a space-time reality in which mechanical steam technology would have evolved to unlikely levels, such as automobiles, airplanes and even steam-powered robots.
Steampunk focuses precisely on a time when science began to truly change people’s lives, the idea of science as magic!
