Whats the best way to attach lots of wired flowers to a Wedding cake?

Hi Cake friends xx
I’ve make quite a lot of Wedding cakes, but they tend to be character cakes.
But I’ve been asked to make a more traditional Wedding cake which has quite a lot of wired flowers which will cascade down the sides. I’m worried about cake picks weakening the cake and causing the sides to collapse! I’m planning to royal ice as many as I can onto it to reduce the holes, but clusters of flowers will need to go into picks.
Do you have any advice to help calm my nerves please?
Any advice is welcome, and tips and tricks are welcome too.
I don’t want to put the covered wires directly into the cake really.
Looking forward to hearing how you cope.

Thanking you in advance for your kind help xxx

I often make my flowers in advance, on cocktail sticks, using cell buds, so easy to pop them in, and out again without damage to the cake! Use a dap of royal icing to secure them. You can also get this stuff called safety seal, but having tried it, I’m not a fan, obviously you let the customer know re the inedible flowers on the cocktail sticks! Hope this is helpful? 😊 I’m sure you will make the cake look stunning :)

Thank you so much Penny Sue for your brilliant advice.
I never thought of putting them on cocktail sticks- that’s genius! And that way they’re safe to put into the cake. Cell buds will cut down the weight too.
Thank you again for this. I’ts helped me feel much more confident and your cakes are amazing too (following you now).
I’ll post the cake on this link when it’s done xx Happy caking xx

Your wellcome, and thanks for the follow 😊 Xx

I’m planning on using this method Karen on an upcoming wedding cake with lots of roses down all five tiers.I’m also using Natalie Porters rapid rose technique which I learnt on a one day course with her.it’s good to hear other peoples opinions on this method.Good luck.x

Thanks Karen xx I’ve started making Roses on cocktail sticks and they’e sturdy and look great. I’ll still use wires for the small filler flowers and clusters of buds. I’ve invested in a rose cutter that I can make a rose in less than a minute too. I’m looking forward to seeing your cake soon Karen. I know it’s going to be gorgeous x
