Introduce Yourself

Full size guitars - Les Paul Goldtop

Hi – thought I would share some experience as a beginner. I have been making birthday cakes for my two sons for 22 years. They are not perfect but usually get a pretty good reaction.

This guitar project needed lots of planning due to size, weight and detail.

Parts to be made:

  • 2 X 2 part pickups
  • 1 bridge nut
  • 22 frets
  • 1 switch
  • 4 knobs – super thick jelly , dial numbers printed on rice paper underneath
  • 6 winders/tuners and silver spacer rings
  • 1 bridge and string spacer
  • 6 silver string posts
  • 18 matchsticks to hold strings, posts and tuners
  • 1 pick guard and bracket
  • fret board – black
  • 2 strap pins
  • 1 cable plug
  • 6 strings – used brown fly fishing leader which stretches very straight.
  • body – compiled 2 X 30cm square cakes
  • neck – cut up a 25cm square cake

I found a diagram on google and sized it exactly on MS Publisher to print across 8 A4 pages for size. I used mylar photocopy sheet to cut the parts exactly to size and after medium drying they lifted off well. Body and next separately, with the body being sprayed in gold. I used a butter cream for the body sides and neck and ganache to hold the guitar down to the board as I needed to transport this 30 miles away.

Anyway , the birthday boy was speechless and he wanted to plug the guitar in.

If anyone wants the plan in MS publisher just message me.
