Help what am i doing wrong

Hi everyone I made my first sponge cake today a chocolate ganache cake I wanted it to be small because there is only two of us to eat it so I made it in a loaf tin it had a lot of ingredients in it after I had mixed all the ingredients and put it into the tin it said to let it cook for 90 mins on gas mark 1 slow cook I found that it did not cook it seemed to rise but spilled over the tin and was still wet after 90 mins did I fill the tin too much I did fill it near to the top of the tin I am a beginner so I am learning please if anyone thinks they know what I did wrong let me know

I’m not familiar with British oven temperatures. I’ve made victoria sponge…but only in 8″ × 2″ or 9″ × 2″ tins. Never a loaf pan. Depends on how much batter you had!!

Hi Kim! I think it sounds like you had too much batter! I think I would have filled it probably half full, also I would say gas mark 1 is way too low, I would have said probably gas mark 3 or 4. It really depends on the recipe you use. I also think you may find it easier like June said if you use round tins to start with? Maybe you could use 2 small 6’ tins and split the batter. Look for recipes that are specifically for the size tin you are using that way it should come out perfect! Let us know how you get on! :-) x

Hi thanks for you help I will try again maybe like you said fill it half way see how it goes and I will get some round tins the small ones and see how I get on I will you know I guess it’s one of many learning curves I have to go in my new found hobby
