Has anyone heard about the calendar to benefit icing smiles?

No – but I was wondering about getting some UK decorators (London area to start) together to offer birthday cakes to the children who are stuck in Hospital for their birthdays. I know that Icing Smiles do this in USA – but wanted to co-ordinate something in UK too? Any ideas?

I know icing smiles is expanding, not sure if they made it to the U.K. yet. You can contact Tracy from icing smiles to see about starting something there. Tracy@icingsmiles.org or icingsmiles@gmail.com.

I’ve signed up to contribute cakes, but haven’t been called yet – I’d love to do it – seeing all those little children smile will make it all worthwhile.

Funfetti, I just did my second cake for them. The first one was about a year ago. As much as I love to donate cakes for them when I don’t get a call for a while I have to tell myself either they have a lot of volunteers in my area or there are not a lot of sick children, either one is a good thing. It is very rewarding when you are able to help out.

I have not signed up with Icing Smiles, but I do a similar thing here, in the small community where I live. I have given birthday cakes to people battling cancer. It has made me to realize how precious a birthday is. Two of the people, have passed away. But I know that each time I delivered the cakes, their faces where full of joy.
To honor my aunt, who passed away from Breast Cancer, I have donated several hundred cupcakes with pink ribbons to fund raisers for people who are battling breast cancer.
For me, it’s just the right thing to do.

That’s great tokazodo.

By the way, if anyone is interested, there is a group that put together a calendar for 2013 that benefits Icing Smiles. Its called cakers for a cause and they are available to purchase online now. It is a bit of a pin-up style so if your interested I can give you a link to it.

personabakery – Absolutely – I really want to help the kid’s over here. My children had such lovely birthdays, because I was fortunate enough to be able to create their cakes for them. They still talk about them now – and they are 23 and 20. I have always had an ambition to help with the Make a Wish Foundation – and giving kids the opportunity to do something they always dreamed of – and families to join in with a trip, which may turn out to be their last. When I heard of making kids birthdays special because of being able to gift birthday cakes – it makes sense to me. I am emailing Icing Smiles and see where they are at with their plans for Icing Smiles (London) !!
