Modelling Chocolate - Make or Buy ?

Hi everyone!
I have a ‘sculpting’ project coming up soon and need a bit of practice because it’s been a while since I did any in clay! So the question is do I make my own modelling chocolate or buy pre made? If I buy it, which brand and type would you recommend? Your feedback will be truly appreciated ;o)
Thanks,
Chris

Chris here’s a good site with recipes I’ve used for modeling chocolate. You could make a small batch and work with it. I’ve never bought modeling chocolate, but I’ve never done a large enough sculpted project to warrant it. It’s super easy to make. You’ll have to do conversion to ml/grms

Hi June, thank you ! I have looked at a few YouTube videos and it looks pretty straight forward to make! I think that’s the route I’ll probably take :o)
Thanks again,
Chris

Your welcome. Have fun making and playing…

I was just about to post you my link Christopher!!! Gkad you found it, I’ve had great feedback from it, it works. Hope you enjoy working with it xx
I’m now off to look at yours June xxx

You must never limit your challenges, instead you must challenge your limits

I had excellent results with the recipe on YouTube by Kaysie Lackey – just google it, and you’ll find it. It’s a bit different than other methods I’ve seen, but it works well!

Thanks! I used Calli’s recipe and made a couple of batches at the weekend and it’s great !

Hi Chris, ive only ever made my own, but ive only ever needed a small amount. Ive heard mixing 50/50 gumpaste /mod choc can be good for modelling too.
Im off to go and try Calli’s now! :-)

sugar and art - perfect combination! sugarmagic22@gmail.com

Hi Christine! Yep will be trying that soon! Don’t over mix it I did with my third batch and it was unusable the oil seeped out. Watch a few YouTube vids on making it for guidance ! Enjoy :o)

Chris, you can rescue overmixed MC. Just leave it to set for a few hours at room temp (don’t poke or fiddle – one of my vices 😂) then knead it all back together again. Works perfectly xx
