Introduce Yourself

Hello!

Hello all! Fairly new to this and grinding my teeth to think of something to say about myself. Obviously I love the cake. And to look at cakes, and to occasionally ask daft questions and pick your brains.
I am working part time as a mental health nurse and have two boys at school. I have baked for many years, for pleasure and lately for cash.
Alas, I became overwhelmed with requests in last few months so have put the brakes on saying yes, and I’m having a break from orders till next year. I don’t know how people running a business from this manage, and indeed those with small children/single parents. Hats off to you all!
In fact, round of applause for us all. It’s not easy is it?
And now I’m going to stalk ALL THE CAKES…….xx

Im the same as you, im a hobby baker and a few years ago I got overwhelmed, started taking orders off customers……I was staying up all hours and ended up neglecting my family so in the end made the decision to cake only for me, when i have the time. It got to the point where me and my partner were arguing over it! Really dont know how some of the pros do it!

Yes, Claire, I’ve often asked the same questions as you….how do they do it?? When I was working, I was selling the odd cake. I could control the amount of hours I put in, but I had to work every other wknd. That put a wrinkle in things. Even tho my children were grown, I decided, nope, I’m not open for business…way too much hassle. Too many demands all the way around. I have Pro caker friends, and I see what they go through…thanks, but no thanks. The woman who got me started decorating years ago, said to me…..June, If you want decorating to stay fun and enjoyable, “Don’t go into business” …..
