How to price for individual sugar flowers
Hi all,
I had someone ask if I could just make a few sugar flowers for them. It sounds like they’ll have their own cakes but want help with the decorations to go on the cake itself. How would you price out something like that? I guess it would just be based on the time it takes to make the flowers. How much do you normal charge per hour for sugar work?

I charge about $7.99 per wired flower when it goes on the cakes I make, depending on the complexity and size of the flower of course. Its though to just be asked to make the toppers and not the cake :-( and then how do you price it.
Last month someone asked me to make the topper for a Ninja Turtle cake, as they were having the cake somewhere else, I looked at the time I would invest in making it, and how much I would charge by itself. In the end I recommeded to my client to buy the non-edible option from Decopac. Unless she was willing to pay for over $45 for the topper. She did get the plastic one, she ordered cake pops and cookies from me and it worked out.

Hi! Never had that request but I would charge by the flower. For instance a large peony suitable for a wedding cake would be $25. A medium sized rose $15, etc…

i think it depends on your skill too, if you are not that trained in making Sugar flowers i would charge less. I just recently made some orchids for someone, i charged 50 euros for it because i wasn’t sure about myself. Now i would charge more because i have a little more experience. I made 4 normal orchids, 3 smaller ones and 3 buds. I charged by the flower instead of by the hour.
You can look also on etsy what they ask for a Sugar flower so you know what a average price is.

Thank you all! Great idea looking on Etsy- had never even thought to do that. I have a much better idea of what going rates for different sized flowers are now before I head into my meeting with this customer.
