Photo stolen! Use reverse image search to see who is using your photos!

Happy New Year fellow bakers! I started the new year with a message from a fellow baker that someone had stolen one of my photos and was using it on her business Facebook page and claiming she had made it! She told me that she had informed several bakers of their photos being on her page! I sent a PM and she did promptly remove it! However it has continued to brother me because she just didn’t seem to “get” that she had done anything wrong. Over multiple messages she informed me that she would have her “marketing department” take care of it, she was not the baker and she did not manage the FB page!!! Well what in the heck does SHE do there?!?!! My favorite was that since I was not a “professional” baker I should be FLATTERED that they used my photo!!! Also that SHE didn’t steal my photo that the client that brought them the photo stole my photo!!! When I told her “But YOU are the one that posted it on your FB page and represented it as your own work” she said “Well we do recreate cakes from other peoples photos but that she would pass my concern onto her IT department”!!! Needless to say I was a little frustrated with our conversation!!! My daughter informed me that you can do a “reverse image search” and see if anyone is using your photos! Here is a tutorial on how to do a reverse image search I found on the site Kevin & Amanda if you would like to check out WHERE your photos are!!! Bethann when you do this you will get a long list including all the people that have pinned your photo. So you have to look through the list for possible sites that may be using your photo!

Ellie thank you very much for this very useful info as so many of us, like you, are plagued with these kinds of people. I have one person who has one of my pics as her personal profile pic!! It beggars belief!!
This link is very useful. Many thanks and sorry for your experience xx

You must never limit your challenges, instead you must challenge your limits

Ellie, this goes on such a lot and that is why so many of us add a watermark to our pictures. Now I know watermarks can be removed by someone who is determined to use other people’s photos but I think it will put off most of them because basically they are lazy so and so’s. I just put my name on and that is enough for me but other cakers have lovely little logos. Go to Picmonkey. It is free and it is so easy to add some text (all sorts of fonts available and you can change the colour, size and opacity). Go and have a play! :-D xx

You’re welcome Calli! I hope it will help a fellow baker out there! My daughter said I should watermark my photos but being I’m a Grandma baking for my family and do not have a business name not sure what I would use as a watermark. Maybe one of you can help me with this!

Oh Julia we must have been typing at the same time!!! LOL!! Thank you for the info! I will definitely check out Picmonkey! I guess I will do like you and use my name! Thanks again!

You can just put Ellie 1985 on – that would be perfect. I just put Julia Hardy Cakes as you can see on my pics. I can personal message you if you need any help xx

Such useful information Ellie. Thanks for posting. I’m a hobbyist with a FB cake page, I’ve never watermarked any of my cakes. I’m definitely going to check out Picmonkey. ☺️
