Hello all you lovely cake makers. A new year fast approaches and i am thinking about whether to start using twitter. My husband bought me a domain for christmas and i am currently working on my website which is very exciting. It was also suggested i start using twitter, mmmmmmm, now i am only little me with my face book cake page, so i am not sure this will benefit me in any way and it looks very complicated. Well………I always send all my cakes off into the either that is twitter……..but to be honest I don’t think they actually get anywhere. Not once have I had any feedback from there, and I don’t think there’s any point to it unless someone is actually watching you in the first place. And if they are……then you’ve already go your ordinance haven’t you?? I might be wrong. But unless someone like Ed Sheeran or someone single and famous asks me to make them a cake I don’t think I’ll ever believe it’s worth the while………but I’m willing to be proved wrong……lol xx

I have a twitter but I just linked my facebook page to it so everytime I post on Facebook it posts to my twitter and it takes cause of it for me lol

I have twitter and am not that fond of it. Maybe I just don’t ‘get’ it – who knows!

I also have a real website (I wouldn’t dream of using a FB page as my only website – very unprofessional), a business FB page, a blog, and IG. I update very often with new pics and new items in the shop – reminders about classes – tutes – you name it!

I wonder – with all the social media small business owners are supposed to be on top of – when do we have time for being business people?!? :-)

With all the social media

That is interesting Amanda. I also agree with you at ultimate cake, I spend far to long on my compute as it is. I only thought I should consider it as I have seen lots of other people’s cake websites with links to Twitter and my hubby gets on well with it.
I don’t think I am going to do it, just stick to my website which is Just about finished…….. exciting xc

I’ve had a Twitter account for ages, but pretty bad at using it. I’ve posted up cakes on there from time to time, but rarely get feedback off it, but I know it’s becasue I’m not on it enough, as its one of those social medias where you need to be actively using it every day and more than once a day. More time consumption for me, time I don’t have…. so for now, it’s there, with the intention to get more active on it at some point.
I’d say go for it as every media tool is a bonus and can sometimes give you more exposure than you realise.
. Good luck with your website… Such fun building. I’ve started revamping my lapsed one. :)

When I first started on Twitter I hated it, I didn’t get it, I found it frustrating and rarely used it.
When I opened the account I immediately linked it to Facebook so that when I post on FB it comes up on Twitter. Sometimes I post on Twitter, more so if I am using products from companies in the industry and link to their Twitter account which gives you exposure to their followers especially if they retweet it.
To give you an example of how it does work well when I made a painted birds cake for a wedding in October last year I Tweeted to Chris Packham from the wildlife programmes on BBC1. He immediately retweeted it to his followers which was great exposure for me and then kindly forwarded it to his colleagues as one of them was getting married about the possibility of considering me for his wedding cake. I was overwhelmed and since then some of his followers have said how they would come to me for a painted birds cake as they are keen bird watchers.
You don’t have to spend too much time on there but to start with just follow everybody that might interest you. I use mine to follow everything to do with weddings from florist, fashion designers, cake designers, cake suppliers, wedding venues, etc. People will start to take a notice, the other thing to do is to Tweet photos of cakes etc to those that might be interested. If you want local venues to notice that you are there then keep sending them pictures of your cakes. You can follow organisations about what’s going on locally, keep up to date with shows. I tend to spend 10mins catching up in the morning to see what everyone else is Tweeting, seeing what is trending and what people are talking about.
Try it is my advice, don’t spend too long working it out just check in daily and sometimes I see something that grabs my attention other times not a lot. :) Good luck!
