Cake Decorating

New & Looking for Advice

Hello everyone!
I’m Flavia and am quite new to the site. I’ve always had a passion for baking, but it was never anything serious for me. I saw a cake online that had lace all over it and I’m obsessed!! I must try and make it myself. I looked into it and there is a product called SugarVeil.

Have any of you used it before?
I would like some feedback before I order it.

Thanks so much !!

Flavian hello and welcome. If you are looking to make a cake with lace I would suggest using cake lace by Claire bowman. It is so easy to use. I just made a cake for my friends birthday with it.

I have not tried sugarveil because of all the difficulties I had heard people had with it. I hope this helps and would love to know how you make out.

hi flavia, yes i use sugar veil and have always got on very well with it. I find it easy and affective and very easy to mix, but it can be a bit messy. It does dry out after several weeks and starts to disintegrate so not ideal for dummy cakes :) x

Hi, Flavian. Cakes + decorating is addictive, isn’t it! There is so much to play with. I have never tried sugar lace myself (I’m more of a butter cream queen), but wanted to say good luck!

Has anyone used cake lace over buttercream or ganache?

I’ve seen it used on ganache quite a lot.
Just checked on www.cakelace.co.uk and it is one of the frequently asked questions there (tried to paste the link but can’t seem to do it this morning for some reason!)
The advice is that it works well on ganache or Swiss meringue buttercream, but not usual buttercream as it stays soft.
Hope that helps x

Hi Flavia!! I would definitely go for Claire Bowman Cake Lace, I have the sugar veil too but it dries out after several weeks whereas Cake lace keeps forever!!! Also I started with sugar veil mats but the Claire Bowman ones are so much prettier and half the price!! Let us all know how you get on!! :-) x
