Bunting Material?

I want to put a bunting on my next cake, but I mostly only see fabric or paper buntings. In my head I was doing it with gum paste/fondant (with the exception of the string and sticks). Would that work or would they be too heavy? I hate to waste the material if it’s not going to work…anyone try this before?

I haven’t tried it but I have seen a few doing it with fondant or gumpaste. I would think you could get it slightly thinner therefore lighter with gumpaste, but that’s just my opinion. Here’s a thought though. I don’t know what color/colors you are wanting your bunting in, but if they make fruit leather in that color you could make a very light bunting from that.

Oh, thank you SaraBeth! I didn’t think of that. I was actually going to try to use my cricut cake and make a bunting with my daughters name in the same color as her party supplies (pink & girlie). Her name only has 6 letters so I didn’t think it’d be too heavy, but I also don’t want it to drag down & tear up the cake after I finish…
